Sometimes we need to step back and look at our history to really appreciate where we are today. As a photographer I look at this first photograph and image what it would have been like to see the image appear, to see that i had just captured something my eyes could see, and that I could share it with someone else. What an amazing thing! And yet, we snap off hundreds and thousands of images with out so much of a pause as to what we are doing. Because of men like Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre, we would never have the chance to capture a moment in time to share with anyone. So the next time you pick up that camera, that phone or what ever you have handy to snap a picture with, pause for a moment and consider what a privilege you have to be able to share that moment in time.
